Blog #4: In Elana Ernst’s words…

…from Actress Elana Ernst, one of the players in The 9/11 Report: A Bipartisan Musical Fantasia

“I honestly cannot make up my mind on what to write in this blog post.
See, the problem is… I have felt so many things over the last week of rehearsal and research, I don’t know what to focus on.
Do I talk about my slow loss of ignorance in this process? How I thought I knew and uncovered that I don’t?
I pride myself on being an educated person, but all my facts were wrong, and all my knowledge was false.
I read the papers over the last eight years. I can name them, unlike Sarah Palin. I talked to friends and colleagues about the attacks. I saw documentaries, and I watched specials. But WHY… why hasn’t anyone pieced the puzzle together?
Here we began reading and referencing the commission report and I thought, WOW, if only everyone would take the time to read this. Light would be shed and questions would be answered. And some are.
Many are not, I now understand. There are still so few answers, and it is a war of he said/she said.
Did you know the government invested close to 100 million in finding out if Bill Clinton slept with good old Monica, but only 3 was put towards the 9/11 investigation?
Did you know that President Bush was sleeping on a BOAT because he had been warned that commercial airlines flights would be used as weapons targeting buildings- and yet Ms. Rice had the balls to stand up and say she did not believe anyone could’ve imagined airplanes being used as weapons?
I didn’t know.
I didn’t know money was wired from Pakistan to men here in the states.
I didn’t know that the men who flew those planes had lived here in the states- some gone to school here- understanding our American way of life… and understanding that we would mourn, but many would soon forget. Not forget the attacks. I would never imply that. Forget to ask questions, to turn over rocks and to do their own investigating. We got mad at Bush, but we didn’t do much with that anger. We mumbled and grumbled and voted for Obama or McCain, but we didn’t put Bush on trial. And I am beginning to believe a trial is just what we need.
Do you remember after the attack, all the computerized traffic update signs along 41 and 94 read “God Bless America.”
The thought still gives me the chills.
Posted words on a screen isn’t enough. Don’t assume someone else is doing the work for you because you see computerized signs.
They aren’t.
I urge you to see this piece of ours, and know that we still have little to no clue. I think we just need to get people thinking again because there are too many questions to ask, and it would be unfair if it was all the responsibility of those already grieving.
So we must ask too. Because boy, have we been duped.”
